MALTA NATURE TOURS

INTRODUCTION: Backed with 5 years of experience, MaltaNatureTours.com specializes in organising guided nature walks in Malta and Gozo supplying identification and further specific information about the biodiversity encountered. The selected tour leaders are graduated in environmental science or agriculture and apart their fluent English, they are selected for their charm and communication skills. Small groups guarantee personal attention and a unique experience in the spectacular Maltese natural habitats from Autumn to end of Spring. From our years of experience, tours have been made perfect to ensure the right balance of fun, education, non-exhaustive exercise, site seeing, plenty of magnificent views, touch of history and acquainted to a number of wild species in the safest and best countryside areas in the Maltese islands.

MISSION: Apart from this touring service, we have a mission to promote local environment and protection of natural habitats of which many are endangered in Malta, partly due to lack of awerness and partly due to the growing urbanisation. Considerable part of the profits from this service will go to sponsor environmental activities and websites needed so much to increase awareness and educate younger generations about the importance of our environment. For example, a part of the sister website - Maltawildplants.com is sustained from such funds. Durig the last century, Malta have suffered mining of land for building or use of natural resources for commercial purposes. A number of species have been lost during the last couple of decades but hope exists - some species of plants thought to be extinct have been rediscovered, while some species of birds are nesting back in Malta, after EU restrictions on the environment.

Mgarr ix-Xini and Xewkija Tour (Gozo)

Mgarr ix-Xini Nature Tour

This full day nature-guided tour is based on small groups to ensure a high quality tour, dedicated personal attention and accustomed to your pace and likes. This tour takes you to one of the most beautiful sites in the island of Gozo, Mgarr ix-Xini imposed by a natural deep rock valley and shingle beach. The first part of the tour is based on the rich and untouched biodiversity residing in this large gorge-like valley. Plant communities are based to pre-desert scrub and garigue habitats. The National bird (The Maltese Rock Trush) can be spotted here, and also a number of endemic species of fauna and flora.

The 10km walk - which can be adjusted to 7.5km - offers several beautiful natural sites such as a shingle beach, beacon tower of the 18th century, Fort Chambray, fossilised Globigerina limestone, clay slopes, coastal cliffs, a large and old Olive grove; all adorned by sunshine, fresh air, and several hundreds of species typical of the Mediterranean region.

Mgarr ix-Xini Nature Tour The tour is aimed for a duration of 7 hours with at least 3 small breaks and takes place between mid October to end of May. It's an ideal tour if you are residing in Gozo for few days and want something different from urban touring. Bus transport is not available here and the street is too narrow for coaches, so you have to depend on our transport or alternatively a hired car or taxi (much more expensive). Being experts on local biodiversity, the guides will identify the species encountered and fill you with all related information you would need to know. The tour is usually performed any day between Sat to Tue, depending combined requests and weather forecast. It is suitable for all ages so far one can walk 7-10km. Most of the track is countryside footpaths and there is no tough off-roading or rock climbing. However wear a walking or trecking shoes since you would walk over rocky plains. An optional picnic style lunch can be order from us too. Contact us for further details.

Please email or phone on (+0356)79546987 for further details, reservations, bookings or special arrangements.

Tourists Feedback!

Silvana and Ron Evans, Manchester (UK)

A fantastic tour with many awesome views and wild flowers. The blue-torquise sea and the sound of its waves in a so quite place was so relaxing. We were also surprised how warm it was in the first week of November. My wife, who is much more green-fingered than me was delighted by practically all the identifications of wild plants by the guide, which might have been more than 200 species just during one day. We definitely recommend this touring service.
